Propane tank explosion sends one person to the hospital with critical burns
Tuesday evening a resident of a home at 1885 Ridge Road called in and said that he was burned and that a propane tank had exploded in his garage at that residence. Upon arrival emergency responders found the victim with burns to his upper body and the building well involved in flame.
The victim was immediately taken to a helicopter landing site and fire fighters began extinguishing the flames in the garage.
The impact of the explosion had literally pushed the back of the building out and it was leaning against an additional shed at the rear of the building. The garage door at the front was ballooned out showing just how strong the blast was.
Firefighters were huddled in a rear corner of the building, hosing down the 100 pound gas tank to cool it down. The tank continued to burn like a roman candle inside the building for close to 30 minutes until the gas finally was depleted from the tank.
The cause of the is still under investigation.
